In these states, all property of a married person is considered as either community property (owned jointly by both spouses) or the separate property of one. Arizona law recognizes that spouses can transmute separate property into community property by commingling community money with sole and separate money. Under this system, all property including real property, income, and any other earnings acquired during a marriage are deemed to be equally owned by each of the spouses. Community property is joint ownership of all assets purchased during a marriage, no matter which spouse purchased them.
